Peer education. Plain English. Protecting veterans.

Understand your VA decision letter in plain English.

See what the letter says, where it says it, what official terms mean, and where to find qualified help. Clear information—without promises, pressure, or claim coaching.

Heartland Veteran is independent from VA and is not a VA-accredited representative.

How it works

Start with the document. Stay with the facts.

Heartland Veteran is being built to make dense decision letters easier to read—not to tell anyone what action to take.

01

Page-cited document map

The map stays tethered to the packet: issue labels, stated outcomes, printed dates, evaluations, favorable findings, evidence entries, and reasons are shown with the packet page that supports them—or marked unclear.

Document-quality checks

Missing, duplicate, blank, rotated, cut-off, or unreadable pages are document questions—not conclusions about a claim.

02

Translate the language

Technical VA wording can be restated in plain English while preserving what the letter says and where the document remains unclear.

03

Keep the sources separate

Official VA and eCFR information can provide neutral context, with source dates and links kept distinct from your letter’s facts.

Accredited-help handoff

When a question requires individual judgment, the right next stop is a VA-accredited representative—not a peer-education tool.

The boundary

Education, not representation.

Heartland Veteran is peer education only. It is not VA, not a VA-accredited representative, and not legal or medical advice. No disclaimer changes that boundary.

What we do

  • Read the submitted packet and cite the page where a fact appears.
  • Explain official terms and public resources in direct, everyday language.
  • Flag missing, duplicate, blank, rotated, or unreadable pages as document-quality questions.
  • Point people to VA’s official accredited-representative locator when individual guidance is needed.

What we don’t do

  • Choose whether to file, appeal, or select a review lane.
  • Tell someone what evidence to obtain, what to say, or how to build a claim.
  • Decide which rating applies or whether a decision was right or wrong.
  • Predict an outcome, prepare forms or statements, or communicate with VA.

Privacy by design

Temporary processing is the goal—not a loose promise.

The planned service is designed around temporary document processing and a two-hour inactivity deletion target, with a Delete Now control. Heartland Veteran will state that as a public promise only after the full deletion workflow is verified across storage, derived files, queues, and vendors.

Community sponsors & partners

Fund access. Not data access.

Community sponsors and educational partners can help fund veteran access to peer education. They receive aggregate, non-sensitive usage information only.

  • No identity, document, conversation, condition, or rating data.
  • No referral data, lead access, or influence over explanations.
  • No sponsor tier unlocks individualized advice or claim-related services.
